Einführung in die Methode der Oxyvenierungs-Therapie und ihre Anwendung bei pheripheren arteriellen Durchblutungsstörungen

Journal/Book: Erfahrungsheilkunde. 1988; Heft 2:

Abstract: During the oxygen therapy the Iying patient is daily intravenously administered a dose of medical oxygen increasing from 10ml to a maximum of 60 ml for approximately 4 weeks. The flow rate is between I and 2 ml/min. The exact dosage is carried out by an equipment particularly designed for this purpose.Indications are all kinds and degrees of circulatory disturbances. Good results have also been observed in cases of bronchial asthma, chronic liver lesions and renal insufficiency, edemas of the most various geneses, neurodermitis, psoriasis, infantile brain defects and general physical exhaustion. The author applies the oxygen therapy predominantly in cases of arterial occlusion of the legs In the majority of cases he has been able to downgrade the patient by one or two stages of disease (stages in accordance with Fontaine). As example we will describe the course of disease of 5 patients treated with the oxygen therapy and show diagrams demonstrating the improvement of the circulation—proven by the acral electronic oscillography. Contra-indications are all acute diseases. Dangerous oxygen foam emboli have not yet occured during the more than 500,000 single oxygen administrations. In practice the oxygen therapy, which takes several weeks, leads in each case to an eosinophilia of the blood of approximately 20%. The cause and the significance of the eosinophilia are not known in the end. It is supposed that there exists an influence on the arachidonic acid metabolism including the development of certain prostaglandins, which might explain the surprisingly good effects in cases of arterial circulatory disturbances by vasodilatation and inhibition of the platelet aggregation.Possible side-effects are a feeling of pressure in the anterior thorax area, cough, headaches and tiredness. On the whole, the oxygen therapy is a highly effective treatment with a favourable benefit-risk and benefit-cost ratio.
