Music: A whole systems approach

Abstract: There is an increasing overlay of thought between systems theory and practice and music, particularly in the area of whole systems. This article provides a brief orientation to systems, indicated where to find music in this literature, and identifies some of the significant areas shared by these fields. The context for this application is musical space, as demonstrated in the musical improvisation experience. Recommendations are made for further development of the field of music therapy by addressing the interface between music and systems.
