Nordoff-Robbins Approach to Music Therapy

Abstract: Therapy in Music - a creative approach being improvised music to influence the development of two children, one blind with severe learning difficulties, the other with Lowe's Syndrome, no speech, but vocal sounds. In both cases, Music Therapy is used creatively to meet the children and draw them into a shared musical experience through improvisation, using rhythm, melody and harmony and thereby building bridges of communication, leading to general development with possible changes in behaviour. To sum up, I produce a quotation from Paul Nordoff - 'By awakening the inner emotional life we seek to lead the child into a shared musical experience with possible changes in behaviour'. N.B.
