The role of creative arts therapy in preparation for death

Abstract: Contends that creative art therapy can provide a structure for dealing with terminal illness and its concurrent psychodynamics. Cases of regression in the service of stage resolution, developmental fixation in stage resolution, and building integrity from despair are given to illustrate the process in 3 elderly persons. It is suggested that the creative spirit inherent in interaction in art therapy aids formation of an image of a lost object figuratively and symbolically.
