Abstract: In each effect occurring in the present, all the past and present factors which are instrumental in that effect find their expression. Hence, if we succeed in describing present effects in a positive and unequivocal way not only a central statement, but at the same time a, holistic" statement can be made concerning any phenomenon. Since Chinese medicine -like all sciences in China - relates primarily and unilaterally to present (current) effects by reason of its methodology, the knowledge gained by the strict methods of this science furnishes fundamentally, ,holistic" statements concerning every observed phenomenon.
