Mental Images and their Transformation

Author(s): Cooper, Lynn A.

Abstract: "Both the intuition of the language and the data of the experimental psychologist suggests that a mental image is like a picture in the head. We know that this cannot be literally so. In attempts to solve this paradox, the papers in this volume touch on many of the most central theoretical and methodological issues in comntemporary cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, and philosophy of mind. At the same time, the papers illustrate how the debate on mental imagery has been transformed from clashes between mutually compatible ideologies to arguments over the merits of alternative scientific theories."
