Musical preferences of older people attending nutrition sites

Abstract: 104 Ss, aged 55 yrs or older, listened to musical excerpts and stated their preferences among the 8 musical styles represented. Ss generally preferred patriotic, big band, and religious music, and were least fond of symphonic, operatic, and folk music. Preferences were closely related to educational level and previous musical experience. Implications for music therapy and recreational activities with older clients were discussed. (16 ref)
