Abstract: The purpose of the investigation was to compare the responses to selected musical stimuli of normal and aggressive emotionally disturbed boys. All subjects were enrolled in public school classes, were American-born, Caucasian male 9-11 years of age with IQs between 85 and 115, no gross physical or sensory handicaps, and hearing within normal limits. Further the normal boys had a low score on the Behavior Problem Checkilst; the emotionally disturbed boys had a high score on this measure. The investigation was conducted in thwo phases. During Phase I an audiotape of selected musical stimuli was constructed. During Phase II, the selected musical stimuli was presented to 20 normal and 20 disturbed boys. There were 50 selected musical stimuli which subjects rated on three evaluation dimensions: happy-sad, like-dislike, and good-bad. Results of the analysis of data revealed that only 6 of the 204 variables were significantly different. It would appear that normal and aggressive boys agree in their perceptions of musical stimuli.
